HLPF Side Event: Sexual Harassment as a Barrier to Achieving the SDGs

At a High-Level Political Forum side event on July 15, 2025, the International Association of Youth and Students for Peace (IAYSP) hosted a discussion on “Sexual Harassment as a Barrier to Achieving the SDGs”. The event, organized with several partners, explored how sexual harassment undermines progress on key Sustainable Development Goals, including gender equality, decent work, and strong institutions. Speakers shared powerful testimonies and legal insights, focusing on the challenges faced in informal sectors, digital platforms, and creative industries. His Excellency Lok Bahadur Thapa, the incoming ECOSOC President, delivered a keynote address, affirming that sexual harassment is a systemic violation that obstructs sustainable development. The discussion concluded with a collective call to action for governments to ratify ILO Convention 190 and for the private sector to implement stronger safeguarding policies. The overall message underscored the need to move from pledges to protection and from isolated stories to collective transformation.
