The President’s Volunteer Service Award 2020
Members of International Association of Youth and Students for Peace USA (IAYSP) are able to submit volunteer hours over the course of a 12 month period from January 1st to December 31st in order to be eligible and recognized for The President’s Volunteer Service Award. Member’s volunteer hours are reviewed and verified and can be awarded a bronze, silver or gold award through IAYSP depending on the age category and number of hours. This month we will be recognizing an exceptional high school youth who has volunteered more than 250 hours of her time in 2020 and will be receiving the Gold Award.
17 year old Angela Mao from Long Island, NY has always had an interest in sustainability and the environment. She has been a member of her school’s speech and debate team and DECA team for 3 years. She is also an active member of the Sierra Club and enjoys volunteering at beach cleanups and the Alley Pond Environmental Center. Passionate about researching a sustainable lifestyle for herself and for others, and wanting to have a positive impact on the planet, Angela believes that a balance can be struck between the environment, businesses and our lifestyles.
During the year of 2020 she volunteered 296 hours of service between researching sustainable methods and best practices for “One Community Global” a non-profit volunteer-based organization whose goal is to share information on ways to live sustainably and protect our planet; and the Wildlife Conservation Society as a volunteer Discovery Guide and leader for the New York Aquarium. She was also a presenter for our USA S!NERGY event in December and won the 3rd place project grant with her Rainwater Harvesting proposal.
With her age group as a young adult and having volunteered more than 250 hours she will be receiving the Gold President’s Volunteer Service Award.
Angela will be recognized for her achievement on January 16, 2021 during the Regional S!NERGY event online starting at 3pm EST. To watch the event livestream click the button below. To learn more about S!NERGY click HERE.
