Sing for Peace in Bridgeport, CT
On September 19th, 2019 Youth and Students for Peace (YSP) and the Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles (CARP) of University of Bridgeport co-hosted the event “Sing for Peace”. The event was in celebration of the International Day of Peace, which is observed every year on the 21st of September, and took place in the Student Center of the University of Bridgeport. The Connecticut university has strong ties with the United Nations with 20 percent of its student body made up of students from over eighty different countries. For the event eight different performers contributed a song or performance that expressed their desires or views on peace, including several local artists and the University of Bridgeport’s Gospel Choir. Some performers even drove in from out of state to perform and share their talents for the event. Guest speakers also spoke and gave messages on peace: Dr. Tyler Hendricks who talked about God, True Love, and Peace and Puntsho Choden who spoke on her experiences with violence in Afghanistan. Around 60 people attended this musical event celebrating peace.
