Service for Peace has been promoting Dr. King's day of service as a day “on” and not a day “off” in Oakland, CA. Despite the challenges with the pandemic and some projects not able to be held due to covid, the 20th annual MLK Day of service in Oakland was a great success!
It was wonderful to see many people coming together from different backgrounds, organizations, and cities, to serve on Monday, January 17th. There were official leaders, council members, and the mayor of Oakland who joined several projects. The Oakland mayor, Libby Schaff, opened the Project at Sobrante Park with words of encouragement and hope, honoring Dr. King's legacy.
